Dear friends of the lowlands of brass music,
after the sneak peek out of moving boxes, now the rest of November follows on top (or behind, as Loriot would say), written – to be more precisely – during a taxi ride to Paris (to dinner with dear fellow musicians at the Buffet Group, my instrument manufacturer).
First the bad news: Andi Mildner, my harpist, has not been able to cure his broken elbow, the poor bastard. Thankfully the organizers in Ravensburg and Straubing have rearranged and it comes to following duels:
On Saturday, 15/11 by 8 pm, I play at the Ravensburger Schwörsaal – once again after a long time against the wonderful Kasia Wieczorek, who now definitely does NOT want to be called Kasia any more, but Katarzyna. She plays, no, wrong, splits her piano like no one else ever even comes close to bring about. If you want to witness this spectacle of nature: Here the ticket link!
On the next day, Sunday, 16/11 at the Rauthaussaal in Straubing, it is the first time of my reading “No effort!” within this region, but this time with huge effort:
With Guto already being in Sao Paolo for the prepartation of our concerts, Emiliano Sampaio will be flown in (with ÖBB SparSchiene) once again. That he still wants to do this again… unbelievable (on the other side: he plays trombone, so…).
After a week of classes in Salzburg, on Friday, 21/11 the fist day of a big trip to America dawns:
22/11. We arrive at the airport in Sao Paolo and guide Gustavo Brinholi (German-speaking) hopefully is there to picked us up. After a light lunch the two solo works for tuba and string orchestra “Matkalla” and “Ecce Homo” are rehearsed, whereby the strings turn out to be a members of OSESP and the tourist guide the orchestra’s conductor. In the evening drive to Sorrocaba.
23/11. Breakfast in the parental home of tourist guide, visit of a social institution. In the afternoon short rehearsal, in the evening concert with the string orchestra in FUNDEC in Sorrocaba, the mayor makes a speech.
24/11. Recovery from a tremendous party in Sorrocaba, followed by a trip to Sao Paolo. Me like an idiot studying my Portuguese reading texts. In the evening, “No effort”, pradon me, “Numa boa!” at the Gouthe Institute, free admission! Infos here!
25.11. Recovery from a tremendous party in Sao Paolo, in the afternoon master class at the EMESP, then after a light snack in the evening performing again with the string orchestra, namley at the Teatro CIEE SP. Afterwards relaxed evening ending with stimulating drinks.
26/11. We are brought to the airport by guide, how – he does not know yet. Flight over Bogota (quick coffee with all the crazy ones from September) to San Jose (meeting all the crazy ones from last year). Rehearsal with the brass orchestra of the Instituto National de Musica. Visit of a salsa bar.
27.11. Master Class at the Instituto, delicious lunch in Central America very best canteen. Evening concert with the brass orchestra of the Instituto National on invitation of the German Embassy.
28.11. We visit the Manuel Antonio National Park, feed a crocodile, annoy a raccoon and throw coconuts after sloths. Don’t forget the swimming trunks. In the evening return to San Jose.
29.11. Return flight via Chicago to Munich, arriving the next day. Individual departure back home.

This year a mistake happened: A Tuba player was voted as “Instrumentalist of the year” ……. strange!
ECHO Klassik für einen außergewöhnlichen Musiker
Universitätsprofessor und LaBrassBanda-Tubist Andreas Martin Hofmeir gewinnt den ECHO Klassik 2013 als „Instrumentalist des Jahres“
Das gab es noch nie in der Geschichte des deutschen ECHO Klassik oder auch vergleichbaren Auszeichnungen in aller Welt:
Mit Andreas Martin Hofmeir gewinnt zum ersten Mal ein Tubist die begehrteste Trophäe der deutschen Klassikszene, und das in der Hauptkategorie „Instrumentalist des Jahres“!
Diese Pionierleistung ist umso erstaunlicher, als dass Hofmeir ein Grenzgänger zwischen verschiedenen Genres ist: Der 35-Jährige ist auch Tubist einer der momentan gefragtesten Pop-Bands des Landes, der bayerischen Kult-Band LaBrassBanda, sowie mehrfach preisgekrönter Kabarettist (u.a. Passauer Scharfrichterbeil).
Den ECHO Klassik erhält er für sein erstes Solo-Album „Uraufnahmen“, das beim Leipziger Tonmeister-Label GENUIN erschienen ist, und ausschließlich Erstaufnahmen von Werken enthält, die eigens für ihn komponiert wurden. Das Album entstand im Rahmen der Preisträger-Förderung des Deutschen Musikwettbewerbs.
Im Juni diesen Jahres veröffentlichte er dort auch die Duo-CD „Why not?“ mit dem Solo-Harfenisten des WDR-Sinfonieorchesters Andreas Mildner.
Bei der Verleihung des ECHO, den er zusammen mit Klassikstars wie Martha Argerich, Jonas Kaufmann und Sol Gabetta erhält, wird Andreas Martin Hofmeir am 6. Oktober live mit Orchester im Berliner Konzerthaus auftreten.
Der Tubist Andreas Martin Hofmeir, geboren 1978 in München, gehört wohl zu den vielseitigsten und interessantesten Musikern seiner Zeit. Der ehemalige Stipendiat der Berliner und Münchner Philharmoniker schaffte es mit seiner Tuba nicht nur zu einem der jüngsten Universitätsprofessoren am Mozarteum Salzburg, sondern brach als Solist auch eine Lanze für sein außergewöhnliches Instrument mit dem Gewinn des Deutschen Musikwettbewerbs 2005 und dieses Jahr mit dem ECHO Klassik als „Instrumentalist des Jahres“. Damit hat sich Hofmeir als erster Tubist in der Spitze der klassischen Solisten etabliert. Im März 2014 debütiert er als Solist bei den Münchner Philharmonikern.
Weitere Pionierarbeit leistete er zusammen mit dem Soloharfenisten des WDR-Sinfonieorchesters Köln, Andreas Mildner, mit der Gründung des weltweit ersten Tuba-Harfen-Duos und trat damit bereits bei den Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspielen oder auch dem Schleswig-Holstein-Musik Festival auf. Ihre Duo-CD „Why not?“ ist im Juni 2013 ebenfalls bei GENUIN erschienen.
Nicht weniger erfolgreich verläuft seine Karriere als Popmusiker: Mit der bayerischen Band „Labrassbanda“ war er „Sieger der Herzen“ beim Eurovision Song Contest und stürmte mit deren drittem Album „Europa“ (erschienen bei Sony) die Top 10 der deutschen Charts. Die Live-Konzerte ihrer Tournee „Europa“ 2013 erlebten sage und schreibe 300000 Zuhörer.
Darüber hinaus steht Hofmeir seit 15 Jahren auch als Kabarettist auf der Bühne. Er schrieb und inszenierte bereits dreizehn Programme, allesamt mit Preisen ausgezeichnet wie zum Beispiel dem begehrten Passauer Scharfrichterbeil. Derzeit tourt er mit der kabarettistisch-musikalischen Lesung „Kein Aufwand!“ durch Deutschland.
